Need Your Money Back? How to Refund a Game on Steam
In this article, you will learn how to refund games. Have you ever bought a game and felt you needed your money back? Do not worry. We have all been there. Usually, we gamers tend to buy games that we thought we liked but end up regretting the moment we open the game.
Steam is one of the most popular digital stores in the world. It contains a wide array of games in its library available for purchase. For the sole purpose of this guide, we will focus on How to refund games on Steam.
Valve is quite cool in terms of allowing refunds of purchases, but there are requirements you need to meet to get a refund. You can find that discussion in the Steam refund requirements section.
Steam Refund Requirements
Before requesting a refund, make sure that you qualify for the basic requirements. These qualifications are to help your refund requests in being taken seriously. You can submit a refund request for any game you bought on Steam that you purchased in less than 14 days and have not played for more than two hours.
These are the most basic requirement you will need to follow in submitting your refund request. However, Steam still considers requests depending on the reasons even if the request did not meet the requirements.
Be Careful With Requesting Refunds Too Often
Although Valve is usually forgiving when it comes to refunding requests, there is still a possibility that your refund request will be denied if Valve suspects that you abuse the system too much.
Do not request refunds too often as you might get banned from requesting refunds entirely in the future. Another offense that might get your request for a refund feature revoked is trying to speedrun every game and then asking for a refund.
DLC and In-Game Content
It is possible to refund other things besides games, including downloadable content and in-game items. As with games, you have a 14-day window to request a refund on DLC as long as you’ve not played the game it relates to for more than two hours since the DLC purchase.
If the DLC completely changes the game in a way that cannot be reversed, the DLC cannot be refunded.
Gifted Games are Refundable
It is possible to refund a gifted game through Steam as well. However, you need to meet the same requirements. If you request a refund on a game that a friend has purchased for you then the funds will return to their account when the refund is processed.
Discounted Games
If you bought a game before a Steam sale, without realizing that was about to happen and now it is significantly discounted. As long as you meet the usual requirements, you can request a refund for the full price of the game that you purchased and then buy it again at the discounted price.
