Free Games for May on the PlayStation Plus: Predictions

Free Games for May on the PlayStation Plus: Predictions

Last Updated on April 25, 2023

May is creeping around the corner already. And with that, PlayStation Plus subscribers are now eager to hear the next batch of free games. Sony Interactive Entertainment has hit it out of the park with this year’s PlayStation Plus free games. Every month proved to be a banger. Consequently, fans’ anticipation of their monthly announcements regarding such is at an all-time high. With the official announcement yet to hit this upcoming Wednesday, April 26, let us take a look at what we think would be the next additions to the PS Plus Collection. Here are our predictions for the free games for May on the PS Plus.

Rumored Free Games for May on PS Plus

Before we begin, remember that PlayStation has now divided its subscription model into three tiers. The PlayStation Plus Essential, Extra, and Premium. The first one gives you the ability to play multiplayer games and rewards you with three to four games every month. Extra then gives you all that plus access to a library of hundreds of PS4 and PS5 games and more free games per month. Lastly, Premium gives you the benefits of both previous tiers on top of retro titles from previous PS eras and cloud streaming.

The games we aim to focus on in this article are what we think would be included in the PS Plus free games for the Essential tier. Take note that Sony announces another batch of free games later in the month for the new additions to the PS Plus games catalog. The titles we will talk about below are different from that. So, do not get confused.

Saints Row (2022)

Saints Row, as a franchise, is arguably at its lowest point after the disastrous launch of the Saints Row reboots last year. While others may think that it is too soon for the title to appear as a free game in PlayStation’s subscription service, we argue that there is no better time to do so. Perhaps making the title free would convince players who are pushed away from even buying it to at least give it a chance.

Over the past few months, the developers behind the admittedly very buggy game worked hard to fix most of its troubles. Although there is still indeed more work to be done, at least they are trying. Nevertheless, making this game free may let players see it in a different light. It may just be what revives the franchise as a whole.

New Free Games on PS Plus

Spyro: The Reignited Trilogy

Although not regularly, Sony tends to include at least one family-friendly game in their free games offerings. Kids and adults alike would certainly love to spend time with the ever-lovable Spyro! Spyro: The Reignited Trilogy is one of the most fan-requested titles. Maybe May 2023 is when PlayStation finally listens.

Shovel Knight

It never hurts to put an excellent Indie title in the mix. And what better way to complete a great set of free games than including Shovel Knight? This punishing yet truly rewarding and fun-to-play game could easily burn hours and hours of gamers’ time. There is always fun to be had every time they boot up this one-of-a-kind Indie title. You only have to give it a try to understand what we truly meant.

If not the three titles above, here are a few more titles that we believe can drop for free this May in PS Plus:

  • No More Heroes III
  • Five Nights at Freddy’s Security Breach
  • Death’s Door
  • Cuphead
  • Hardspace Shipbreaker

Again, these are just predictions of ours. This is not an official list of what are the free games for May on the PlayStation Plus Essential. You have to stay tuned to PlayStation’s official announcement this coming Wednesday for that. But what do you think? Do you have your own predictions for next month’s free games on PS Plus?
