Creators of Pokemon Go Announce Monster Hunter Now

Last Updated on April 23, 2023

Monster Hunter Now made a surprise announcement and it will officially be part of the beloved franchise. Niantic revealed that the new AR game Monster Hunter Now will release globally on September 2023. This will be a mobile game just like Pokemon Go, and it is available for download on Google Play and the App Store.

Just like Pokemon Go, Niantic will be the one to distribute the game to the fans. As we know it from Niantic games, Monster Hunter (MH) will get similar AR features to Pokémon Go.

MH Now players can find monsters and materials out in the real world as they walk around in real life. With your phones, you can team up with friends and strangers to hunt those monsters and craft weapons and armor.

This game already feels like the next Pokemon Go but with more dangerous gameplay. As to what that entails, let’s dive deeper into Monster Hunter Now.

How Monster Hunter Now Will Work

Niantic and Capcom said the game would feature a simplified but authentic version of the Monster Hunter series’ combat. The complex combat will be done using taps and swipes on the touchscreen. Since it will be a mobile version, it is safe to assume that the combat is not too difficult.

The game will be playable one-handed in portrait mode, or a landscape presentation closer to the console and PC MH games. The maximum battle time is just 75 seconds, to be suitable for outdoor play.

The series’ distinctive, gameplay-altering weapon classes remain, but players should expect to be switching between them more frequently. “We hope users will try out different types of weapons,” said Niantic Tokyo’s executive director Tatsuo Nomura.

Niantic’s way spots will be resource-gathering points in Monster Hunter Now. The players’ real-world environment is divided into different ecological zones, with different monsters and materials occurring in each.

For Monster Hunter Now features, there is a new “paintball” mechanic. Players can use a “paintball” item to tag monsters in the world to hunt at home, alone, or with friends. Alternatively, your Palico can tag monsters with paintballs automatically, even if the app is closed, to gather hunts for later. This enables players to play at their leisure, ensuring flexibility and comfort.

It’s due for release in September on Android and iOS platforms, with a beta test beginning on April 25. Registration for the beta test is open at the Monster Hunter Now website.
