Crystal Dynamics, creators of Marvel’s Avengers game, is purportedly moving on to a new secret project. This comes on the heels of their official announcement that support for the live-service game will finally end this fall. Reports suggest that the developer is already enlisting several playtesters. This can be interpreted that their new game isn’t that far long now. Whatever it may be, we certainly hope it fares better than their previous one.
The Email Invitations
It has been said that Crystal Dynamics sent out emails to its loyal fans. Particularly, to those that responded to their recent “Legacy of Kain” survey. To the surprise of many, the email wasn’t just to express gratitude. It was also an invitation to their upcoming remote playtest. The email supposedly contains several questions to ensure that would-be participants have the following:
- A working PC or Mac
- Web camera
- Installed Microsoft Teams
At first, people were doubtful about the true nature of the invitation. In fact, some thought it was a hoax. These doubts were then quickly put to rest by a representative of Crystal Dynamics who confirmed that they were indeed from them. He said that the email invitations are genuine but declined to specify what they are exactly for.
Crystal Dynamics New Project
Considering that the invitations came after responding to a survey about the developer’s cult-classic game series, Legacy of Kain, many immediately assumed that the upcoming playtesting would revolve around it as well. It is worth noting that the Legacy of Kain series hasn’t had a new game since 2003. And despite the pleas of its fans for a new game ever since, the franchise remained quiet.
That is up until now, as many would put it. It is now widely speculated that Crystal Dynamic’s secret new game would be a reboot of the Legacy of Kain series. If not, perhaps a remake or remaster of its most popular entry. With all that said, keep in mind that all these are merely speculations. There is no confirmation whatsoever about the true nature of the upcoming playtesting just yet. There is nothing much to do really than to wait.
After failing to capitalize on the rabid Marvel fans with their recent big project, perhaps the developers intend to go back to its roots. Instead of making a game out of others’ property, maybe they’re looking to revitalize one of their own.
But what do you think is Crystal Dynamics’ next move following Marvel’s Avengers? Is the Legacy of Kain franchise truly about to be resurrected? Or is this supposed new secret game an entirely different IP? We’d love to hear from you through the comment section below!
