Poison Type Weaknesses & Resistances

Last Updated on May 28, 2023

Our toxic little creatures have been a part of the game since its inception, but some are still confused about Poison Type Weaknesses. That is understandable because Poison-type Pokemon only have a few of them. In fact, they only have two weaknesses and so many Poison Type resistances. This may sound overpowered, but it’s not when you learn about it.

While Poison Type Weaknesses may not be many, understanding it will help you in countering them when you see one. Poison Types have grown more popular recently so you have to know how to counter them or utilize them.

In this article, we will take a look at all of the Poison-type weaknesses and resistances, and explain how to use them to your advantage.

Poison Type Weaknesses

The most obvious weakness of Poison-type Pokemon is Ground-type moves. This is because Ground-type Pokemon are immune to Poison-type attacks. Since they are immune to it, it is only natural that they are super effective against it.

A quick and simple Earthquake should knock down any Poison-type Pokemon out there. That is why if you want to counter a Poison Type, make sure to have someone who loves mud. Mud-loving Pokemon will solve your Poison problems easily.

The other Poison Type Weakness is not as obvious as Ground. Psychic-type moves are the last of the Poison Type Weaknesses. Any Psychic-type moves a Poison-type takes will deal double damage to it. While Psychic types are not immune to Poison-type moves, they are resistant to them.

Poison Type Resistances

While Poison-type Pokemon have a few weaknesses, they have many resistances that can help them in battle. Poison-type Pokemon are resistant to Bug, Grass, Fighting, Poison, and Steel-type moves. This means that they will only take half the damage from these types of attacks.

This is one of the strengths of having a Poison-type Pokemon on your team. It has few weaknesses and a whole lot of resistance. That is why trainers use these Pokemon to Poison the enemy while tanking a lot of hits. If you have one on your team, teach it Toxic and watch your enemies slowly lose HP until it runs out.

In addition to all its resistances, Poison-types are immune to being poisoned. Since they are the ones who poison others, they cannot be poisoned themselves. This is a nifty immunity because you have one less status condition to worry about.

Key Takeaways

Now that you know all of the weaknesses and resistances, you can start to use them to your advantage in battle. If you are facing a Poison-type Pokemon, try to use a Ground-type or Psychic-type move to deal double damage.

If you are using a Poison-type Pokemon in battle, be aware of their weaknesses and try to avoid using them against Ground-type or Psychic-type Pokemon. Make sure to have proper coverage on your team to deal with its weaknesses.

These Pokemon are a great addition to any team, but they are not without their weaknesses. By understanding Poison Type weaknesses, you can start to use them to your advantage and become a more successful Pokemon trainer.
