Pokemon GO Shadow Raids are a new type of raid battle that was recently added to the game. In these raids, you will face off against powerful Shadow Pokemon. These are Pokemon that have been corrupted by Team Go Rocket.

Shadow Pokemon are stronger than normal Pokemon, but they also have a lower CP cap. This means that they are more difficult to train, but they can also be more powerful in battle. To make things even more difficult, they are much stronger as a Shadow Raid Boss.

Incidentally, in these Shadow Raids you will get something called a Shadow Shard. If you want to know about all of these then you are in the right place.

In this article, we will talk about Shadow Raids and how to get Shadow Shards in Pokemon GO.

What are Pokemon GO Shadow Raids?

Shadow Raids are similar to a normal Raid in the game. It allows you to team up with other trainers to battle a Shadow Raid Boss. Shadow Raids are divided into three strength categories namely one-star, three-star, and five-star. These categories indicate its difficulty and how many people you need in the raid.

To participate in a Shadow Raid, you must find a Gym that has been invaded by Team Go Rocket. You can also check the Nearby Raids tab to help you in your search. However, you should note that participating in a Shadow Raid requires a Raid Pass.

How to Get Shadow Shards?

Winning a Shadow Raid will earn you a collection of rewards. These rewards vary but they typically include Shadow Shards, Mysterious Components, etc. Last, but not the least, you will get the chance to catch the Shadow Pokemon you were fighting.

While winning against the Shadow Raid Boss will net you some Shadow Shards, it is not the only way to get them. There are a total of four ways to get Shadow Shards including the raids, with each of them giving a different amount of shards.

These are the different ways to collect Shadow Shards and how much you earn per encounter:

  1. Go Rocket Grunts: 1 Shadow Shard Per Encounter
  2. Leaders: 2 Shadow Shards Per Encounter
  3. Giovanni: 4 Shadow Shards Per Encounter
  4. Shadow Raids: Up to 5 Shadow Shards Per Encounter

Once you have collected enough Shadow Shards, you can use them to create Purified Gems. You can use Purified Gems to counter Shadow Pokemon in raids when they reach an enraged status. Using it will definitely help you in your battles against Shadow Raid Bosses.
