Gaismagorm is the final boss of Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak. It is a large, black Elder Dragon with a powerful arsenal of attacks. It is a gluttonous creature that desires to consume all forms of life in order to become stronger. Stories will tell you that this creature is responsible for the near destruction of the Kingdom in the past, and its emergence is considered a sign of calamity. Gaismagorm is a difficult monster to fight. Perhaps more so than most of this brilliant game’s other bosses.
It is resistant to most ailments, and its attacks can deal a lot of damage. However, it is weak to Dragon and Thunder element damage, and it is susceptible to Iceblight. There is no denying that Gaismagorm is a powerful Elder Dragon. But it is not invincible. By following these tips, you can increase your chances of defeating it.
Beating Gaismagorm in MH Rise: Sunbreak – Tips
Here are some general tips on how to beat Gaismagorm:
- Use weapons that deal Dragon or Thunder element damage.
- Bring items that can inflict Iceblight, such as the Whetfish Fin+.
- Stay close to Gaismagorm and attack its head and neck. These are its weakest areas.
- Be careful of Gaismagorm’s tail swipes and charge attacks. These can deal a lot of damage.
- When Gaismagorm flies into the air, be ready to dodge its dive bomb attack. We will talk more about its attacks later on.
If you are playing with a group, focus your attacks on Gaismagorm’s head and neck. This will make the fight go more smoothly.
Here is a more detailed explanation of Gaismagorm’s weaknesses:
- Dragon element. Gaismagorm is weakest to Dragon element damage, taking around 10 points more dragon damage than its second weakness, Thunder. This means that using weapons with Dragon element damage will deal the most damage to Gaismagorm.
- Thunder element. Gaismagorm is also susceptible to Thunder element damage, taking around 5 points more thunder damage than its other elemental weaknesses. This means that using weapons with Thunder element damage will also deal a significant amount of damage to Gaismagorm.
- Blast. Gaismagorm is somewhat susceptible to Blast damage, taking around 2 points more blast damage than its other elemental weaknesses. If you don’t have any Dragon or Thunder element at your disposal, using Blast as another option isn’t a bad idea. That said, expect the fight to go for much longer relative to when you are using the first two weaknesses mentioned.
- Iceblight. Gaismagorm is weak to Iceblight, which will reduce its stamina and attack power. This means that using items that can inflict Iceblight, such as the Whetfish Fin+, will make the fight easier.
MH Rise: Sunbreak Gaismagorm Combat Strategy
Players will have to endure two grueling boss battle phases if they want to take down MH Rise: Sunbreak’s final boss, Gaismagorm. For the first phase, you won’t be able to deal any significant damage to the dragon because of the protective crystalized Qurio on its body.
As you would expect, you need to break it down first. Aim for the dragon’s forelegs, head, and wingarms. The first phase of this boss fight simply boils down to you avoiding its attacks, while chipping down at its health until the Dragonator finally becomes usable.
Once the Dragonator is ready, you will receive a notification to use it. Pull the lever and Gaismagorm will get hit with a barrage of powerful attacks that will significantly damage its protective coating. Simply put, do this as much as possible until the cutscene for the next phase begins.
The second Gaismagorm phase starts once you jump down into the second arena. During this phase, the final boss will move around a lot more. On top of being more agile, it will also receive newer, more powerful attacks such as frequent fireballs.
Occasionally, Gaismagorm will climb the cliff, essentially halting the combat for a while. Use this opportunity to use ballistae to it. Aim at the balls of Qurio that are on its back. Take note, however, that doing so will provoke him to attack you. Dodge it.
Just continue to look for openings while dodging its attacks. Focus your attacks on the dragon’s aforementioned weak points. Soon enough Gaismagorm will fall down, ending the boss battle and the game itself.
The Boss’ Most Notable Attacks
Here are some of Gaismagorm’s most notable attacks:

- Tail Swipe. The dragon swipes its tail at the hunter, dealing a large amount of damage.
- Charge Attack. Gaismagorm charges at the hunter like a rampaging bull, dealing a large amount of damage if it connects.
- Dive Bomb. The dragon flies into the air and then dives down at the hunter, dealing a large amount of damage if it connects.
