The Callisto Protocol takes the world by storm as it attempts to push the limits of video game gory horror. It is unapologetic for its bloody and gruesome scenes, and that’s why gamers like myself love it.
With new technological advancements, game developers continue adding more details to their video games. Those details include hideous monsters and a suspenseful feel to the Callisto Protocol this time.
What You Need to Know About the Callisto Protocol
Striking Distance Studios’ developers did a marvelous job creating this survival horror video game. With Glen Schofield directing, who also previously worked on Dead Space, the Callisto Protocol is sure to have an immersive story.
Krafton, the game publisher, released the Callisto Protocol on October 27, 2022. However, the game was so gruesome and terrifying that they canceled the Japanese release. It did not get a CERO rating due to its violent nature, and Striking Distance Studios refused to make any changes.
It is also worth mentioning that this game is one of the best upcoming PS5 games (PlayStation 5) for 2022. It’s because Schofield said he was trying to make the scariest game on next-gen platforms.
The game takes advantage of new lighting techniques and audio systems that newer consoles offer. Even more, it received generally favorable reviews because of its poor performance. Players label it as a “stuttering nightmare.”
What is the Story All About?
The story follows the character Jacob Lee who got sent to a prison facility on the Jovian moon — Callisto. Jacob fights against infected prisoners that have an unknown disease. He has to uncover the dark secrets of the facility while surviving the horde.
You get to play alongside your partner, Max Barrow. Both of you are co-pilots that work for the United Jupiter Company, which contracts you for freight transport. However, they’ve been ferrying unknown shipments between Europa and Callisto.
Once you arrive at Callisto, a bunch of terrorists, the Outer Way, board your ship and force you to crash-land on Callisto’s surface. Max Barrow does not survive, but you, Jacob Lee, and the terrorist leader, Dani Nakamura, are the only survivors.
After that, the prison security head picks both of you up and imprisons you without trial. You wake up post-processing to find the prison overrun with infected inmates.
That’s all we can tell you about the story. You can try to buy the game and find out more, or you can head over to our next article. We have plenty more stories over on our website.
