Even though vampires—arguably—are just as popular as zombies, there seems to be a lack of games involving such. Today, there are boatloads of zombie games whereas vampire games only have a handful to show. We think it’s unfair, and we argue that our favorite blood-sucking monsters deserve more shine in the spotlight. After all, vampires make for interesting characters to play us. Not only are they cool supernatural beings, but they are also very powerful to boot.
With that said, this doesn’t mean that there aren’t any good vampire games out there today. Despite the lack of titles, the gaming industry has seen its share of great vampire-focused games over the years. In this article, we aim to take a look at the top 3 vampire games out today. These games are so good, we argue that you should play them right now! Or at the very least, put them on your radar.
Best Vampire Games Available Right Now
Is there anything cooler than a vampire anime guy/girl wielding giant cool weapons? I reckon not. Code Vein allows you to live that fantasy as it is! This souls-like anime game allows players to create their powerful vampire protagonist to brave its harsh settings and deadly enemies. While Code Vein didn’t explicitly state that these characters are vampires, the fact that they rely on blood to regain strength or survive should already be a dead giveaway.
Fans of the Souls franchise will instantly feel familiar with how Code Vein feels. Some refer to this game as Dark Souls but anime. Nevertheless, this game is much more accessible than the From Software Juggernauts. While there may indeed be tough encounters now and then, Code Vein successfully gives players the feeling of being a powerful anime vampire hybrid.
Vampyr transports players to the setting where vampires are arguably the most popular: post-World War I London. In the game, you play Jonathan Reid, a doctor who has recently become a vampire. Before, you were just a man of medicine doing his job, but now you are a powerful vampire looking to eradicate all supernatural creatures in the area. And yes, that includes vampires, just like you. Certainly, the best vampire hunters are vampires themselves.
This game gives players the dilemma of either keeping their humanity intact or going full-vampire mode. Every time you consume the blood of other people you gain new abilities. But, of course, you lose a part of your human self in the process of doing so. This promotes careful decision-making and perhaps multiple playthroughs. All in all, Vampyr is a great third-person action game. It is a must-try for all vampire enthusiasts and fans.
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines
Vampire the Masquerade – Bloodlines is hands-down one of the best PC games you can play right now. If not for the poor business decision to put it directly against Half-Life 2, this vampire game would certainly be even up there in terms of popularity. Today, this game is seen as a cult-classic vampire role-playing game (RPG). The things you can do in this game are still baffling considering the technical limitations of that time. So much so, that it can sometimes feel overwhelming.
In addition, the game also features several alternate endings. This makes each playthrough truly unique as long as the player wishes it to be. With all that said, if you are to play just one vampire game for the rest of your life, we recommend this one. Perhaps in the alternate reality where White Wolf Publishing did not go head-to-head with Valve, there are more vampire games.
