As a longtime Pokemon fan, I’ve played my fair share of the “Best Pokemon Game” over the years. With over 25 years of games to choose from, it’s no easy feat to pick just one. That is why I am picking three of the best Pokemon games of all time.
However, after careful consideration, I believe that the following three games have earned their place in Pokemon history:
Pokemon Emerald

Released in 2005, Pokemon Emerald was the third game in the Hoenn region and was developed by Game Freak. The game featured on the nostalgic game boy advance, much like the two games before it.
It featured a slightly altered storyline from its predecessors, Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, and added new features. One of the most revered features is the Battle Frontier and catching both Groudon and Kyogre in the same game.
One of the biggest improvements in Pokemon Emerald was the addition of the Battle Frontier. It is a facility where players could take on a variety of challenging battles with unique rules and conditions. This feature added depth to the post-game content that had never been seen before in a Pokemon game. and it kept players engaged long after they had defeated the Elite Four.
Pokemon Platinum

Released in 2008 for the Nintendo DS, Pokemon Platinum was an enhanced version of the Sinnoh games, Diamond and Pearl. It featured a revised storyline that expanded the lore and added new features like the Battle Frontier from Pokemon Emerald.
One of the biggest draws of Pokemon Platinum was the expanded storyline. The storyline of Platinum added new characters and events that made the game feel more fleshed out and complete. The game also introduced new Legendary Pokemon like Giratina, which played a major role in the game’s story.
Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver

Released in 2009 for the DS, Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver were remakes of the classic games that took our hearts. These games are the remakes of the original Game Boy Color games, Pokemon Gold and Silver.
They featured updated graphics, improved gameplay mechanics, and added features. Features like the Pokewalker, In-Game Clock, and breeding were the cornerstones of the future Pokemon games.
One of the biggest draws of Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver was the nostalgia factor. As someone who had played the original Gold and Silver games. I was thrilled to revisit the Johto region with updated graphics and improved gameplay mechanics.
The games also featured the ability to travel to the Kanto region after defeating the Elite Four. which added even more content to an already massive game.
Overall, these three games stand out from the rest as some of the best Pokemon games of all time. Each one added unique improvements to the formula, and they continue to be beloved by fans to this day. While there are plenty of other great Pokemon games out there. These three are the cream of the crop and are definitely worth checking out if you haven’t already.
