Persona 5 Royal is an enhanced version of the original Persona 5 released back in 2016. Mind you that this is not just a DLC. It is so good that it puts Persona 5, a perfectly excellent game, to shame.

I poured more than 100 hours into this game and I can say with absolute certainty that it is a masterpiece. Even though I already played Persona 5, Persona 5 Royal brings the game to another level. So what makes the game a true masterpiece?

What is Persona 5 Royal?

Developed by Atlus, Persona 5 Royal is a JRPG that combines elements of dungeon-crawling and social simulation. The game is set in modern-day Tokyo and follows the story of a group of high school students.

Eventually, the students will discover that they can enter another world known as the Metaverse. In this world, they take on the role of Phantom Thieves and steal the hearts of corrupt adults to reform their society.

Persona 5 Royal features a vast array of characters, each with their unique personalities and abilities. You will take on the role of Joker. You can develop relationships with other characters and improve their abilities through interactions.

Kasumi Yoshizawa is a new character who joins the Phantom Thieves of Hearts. She has her storyline, Confidant level, and Persona. She is also a potential romantic interest for Joker.

  • New Location: Kichijoji

Kichijoji is a new area that the player can explore. It includes new shops, restaurants, and activities, such as a darts game and a billiards game. The player can also hang out with their confidants at new locations in Kichijoji.

  • New Confidant: Takuto Maruki

Takuto Maruki is a new confidant who is a counselor at Shujin Academy. He is a valuable confidant to have because he can help the player recover SP and provide other useful benefits.

  • New Semester: Third Semester

Persona 5 Royal extends the story by adding a new semester to the game, which takes place after the original game’s ending. The new semester includes new story elements, characters, and events.

  • New Palace: Maruki’s Palace

Maruki’s Palace is a new palace that you can explore. It is only available in the third semester and has a unique design and theme.

  • New Endings and Cutscenes

Persona 5 Royal adds new endings and cutscenes to the game that expand upon the original story and provide more closure for the characters.

  • New Gameplay Mechanics: Showtime Attacks and Baton Pass Improvements

There are new battle mechanics such as Showtime attacks. Showtime attacks are flashy moves available to specific pairs of characters.
