Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is among the most-anticipated titles coming to the PS5 in its history. Dare we say, players’ excitement for its impending release is comparable even to Elden Ring early last year. With the rising superhero game series already having the brilliant one-two punch of Marvel’s Spider-Man and Spider-Man Miles Morales under its belt, there is no reason why we shouldn’t believe its sequel will just be as excellent.
Insomniac Games has captured the trust of gamers worldwide. And with that, we are confident they’d deliver with this one just the same. However, the developer remains quiet about the upcoming sequel to two of PS5’s best video games to date. Despite the eagerness of everyone, only a little information is shared with the public. Apart from the short-but-incredibly sweet teaser trailer back in PlayStation Showcase 2021, there isn’t really much for us to go on.
In this article, we intend to share our excitement for the game by providing you with a preview. Additionally, we’d also point out everything we know so far and the rumors swirling around the web concerning it.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: Everything We Know So Far
The aforementioned teaser trailer explicitly showed the series’ protagonists Peter Parker and Miles Morales working together against a common threat. That being the iconic Spider-Man villain (and sometimes all), Venom. In the trailer, the symbiote monster is as imposing and threatening as ever. Despite showing on the screen for mere seconds, his presence truly sent shivers down our spine.
It has been heavily rumored that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will have a September 2023 release date. This is thanks to one of the game’s voice actors seemingly slipping the tongue on social media. In a now-deleted tweet by Venom’s voice actor Tony Todd, he heavily implied that the sequel is coming this September after answering some of the fan queries.
Nevertheless, Insomniac confirmed that the game is indeed coming this Fall. There is no precise release date, however.
Unlike the first two Spider-Man games, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has been confirmed to be a PS5 exclusive. The developer noted that they aim to push the capabilities of the latest Sony system with this title. And seeing as how beautiful its two previous games in the series are, we cannot help but think that the upcoming sequel will be among the prettiest games to date.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Rumors
Both Peter Parker and Miles Morales are heavily involved in the game’s marketing and promotional material. This suggests that the game intends to allow players to control both Spider-Mans. As a matter of fact, this also sprung rumors that the sequel may have a co-op feature. Instead of just allowing players to control one at a time, others believe that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will enable control of both protagonists at the same time.
Additionally, many believe that the game will feature more characters from Spider-Man’s infamous rogue gallery. Apart from Venom, we can also see Kraven: The Hunter join in the fray. And considering that a solo movie is seemingly in the works for the villain, we believe there is no better time to integrate the threatening madman into the series than in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
Much like how Venom was teased at the very end of the first game, we can also see the sequel giving the nod to yet another iconic Spider-Man villain in this one. Spider-Man’s nemesis Green Goblin just feels perfect to be put on that spot.
We honestly believe the maniacal goblin will be the ultimate villain for the third installment in the series. Being the Joker to Spider-Man’s Batman, we just can’t picture Green Goblin as anything else. Believe us, featuring the villain as a mere side character will disappoint millions. It will be the biggest disservice to a character in a superhero game if ever.
Is Insomniac Games Setting Up For A Marvel Team-up Game?
On top of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Insomniac Games also confirmed its intentions to revitalize everyone’s favorite Canadian mutant, Wolverine, in the gaming scene. While there is no other information shared about it other than it is in development and title (Marvel’s Wolverine), this did not stop fans from speculating even further.
Now that Insomniac Games is in possession of two of Marvel Entertainment’s most popular characters, we cannot help but think they’re gearing up for something bigger down the line. And what’s bigger than making a full-fledged Marvel team-up game? Perhaps Spider-Man and Wolverine are meant to be the welcoming committee for more Marvel superheroes to join in.
As soon as Insomniac announces another Marvel project different from the first two, they might as well just confirm an upcoming Avengers game! Nevertheless, we have full faith in them to pull such a massive project off.
Barring any significant delays, gamers can expect Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 to come out this year. The game is set to be a PS5 exclusive with a possible PC release to come later down the line.
