LoL Esports pro is proud that he is an owner of a prestigious and rare watch. Lionel Messi received the so-called “Messi Watch” when he won the Ballon d’Or in 2021.

The Ballon d’Or (or golden ball), is the most prestigious individual award for football players. The French news presents it in the magazine, France Football. Since 1956, the trophy honors the best-performing football player of the previous year. A panel of international journalists will decide who will get the most prestigious award.

And there’s more to the award than just the trophy because Messi also received a rather impressive watch, a unique Purnell Ballon d’Or 2021 in gold. Based on Purnell’s Escape II model, they co-created this watch with master watchmaker Eric Coudray.

Housed in a 48mm gold case, the movement is built around a tourbillon, with its cage shaped like a football making a complete rotation in 30 seconds.

They engrave the two barrel covers with dedicated texts related to the trophy. The winner of the Ballon d’Or (and also the female winner) will have the watch engraved by hand. It will consist of their name engraved by the artist Juliane Coulet.

A commercial edition of this exclusive watch was also released that same year, but only eight pieces of this watch exist in the world. When the watch launched in the same year, it was already priced at a whopping US$500,000.

After a hard-fought match against France, Argentina came out victorious in World Cup 2022 final. As a result, Lionel Messi’s joyous face is now the talk of the town.

Lionel Messi merchandise is popping up everywhere and is worth a lot more money now.

The rarest Messi merch you can get your hands on is the Messi 2021 Purnell Ballon d’Or watch. There are only eight commercial pieces that they made and sold worldwide.

One of their owners is LoL esports pro player, Jungler Hung “Karsa” Hao-Hsuan, who competes in China’s League of Legends Pro League (LPL). After Argentina’s win at the World Cup final, he showed off his limited-edition timepiece on Instagram.

“Sharing a picture of last year’s golden football limited edition Messi watch. Congrats to the champion! Next year I’ll also continue to do my best”

Now that the football legend, Messi, has his long-coveted World Cup trophy, his popularity ascended to greater heights than before. We expect the US$500,000 Purnell Watch will rise in value as time progresses.

With Karsa owning a rare and expensive watch, one might wonder how much does a League of Legends pro player earn to be able to buy this watch? How much are the LoL Esports earnings?

For reference, professional League of Legends players is making a lot of money on average in North America. The average LCS player’s salary in 2020 is $410,000, according to Hal Biagas, the executive director of the North America LCS Players Association (NALCSPA).
