It was the first time where we saw a glimpse of Pokémon in an open-world setting. It also featured Dynamaxing, a battle mechanic wherein your Pokémon become gigantic versions of themselves.
Generation 9: Paldea
The latest generation of Pokemon debuted in 2023. It is the first time where you can play Pokémon in a fully open-world experience. At the time of writing, pokemon scarlet and violet contributed 107 new creatures.
This generation featured Terastrallizing, a new battle mechanic, Tera Raids, and different storylines. It is the first time that a mainline Pokemon Game has three different storylines.
