The Persona 5 Royal Characters are one of the best reasons why Persona 5 Royal is such an amazing game. The game features a wide range of memorable characters that have become fan favorites over time.
There are many characters in the game but for this article, we will only rank nine of them. All of these characters are beloved and memorable. I had a ton of emotions interacting with them. While it is hard to rank them, there are personal favorites that I am incredibly biased about.
This ranking will be based on the character’s abilities, storyline, and overall appeal. In this article, we will be looking at the nine best Persona 5 Royal characters, ranked from the best to the least favorite.
1. Makoto Nijima
Makoto Nijima is one of the most popular characters in Persona 5 Royal. Side note, she is also the best girlfriend out of all the characters you can romance.
She is a member of the Phantom Thieves of Hearts and the student council president at Shujin Academy. Makoto is a highly intelligent and driven character who is passionate about justice and doing what is right. She is skilled in hand-to-hand combat in battle.
Makoto is an excellent character because of her strong personality and her growth throughout the game. At the beginning of the game, she is portrayed as a rigid and uptight character. She is focused solely on her studies and her responsibilities as a student council president.
However, as she becomes more involved with the Phantom Thieves, she begins to loosen up and show more of her fun and caring side.
2. Futaba Sakura
Futaba Sakura is another popular character in Persona 5 Royal. She is a skilled hacker who suffers from severe social anxiety and spends most of her time locked in her room. Futaba joins the Phantom Thieves after they help her overcome her personal demons.
Futaba is a great character because of her unique personality and her importance to the story. She provides a lot of comic relief and has some of the most memorable moments in the game.
Additionally, her character arc is one of the most emotional and heartwarming in the game. Plus, her childlike innocence is often cute and fun to watch.
3. Ryuji Sakamoto
Ryuji Sakamoto is a former track star at Shujin Academy and one of the first members of the Phantom Thieves. He is a loud and boisterous character who is always eager to help out his friends. Ryuji is also a bit of a troublemaker and often finds himself in sticky situations.
Ryuji is a great character because of his infectious personality and his loyalty to his friends. He is always there to provide a helping hand and lift everyone’s spirits. Additionally, his backstory is one of the most tragic in the game, which makes his growth and development throughout the game all the more satisfying.
4. Ann Takamaki
Ann Takamaki is a popular model and one of the first members of the Phantom Thieves. She is a caring, beautiful, and compassionate character who is always looking out for her friends. Ann is also a skilled fighter and uses a whip in battle.
Ann is a great character because of her kind and gentle nature. She is always there to provide emotional support and to help her friends through tough times.
Additionally, her backstory is one of the most heartbreaking in the game, which makes her growth and development throughout the game all the more satisfying.
5. Goro Akechi
Goro Akechi is a detective who is investigating the Phantom Thieves. He is a charismatic and charming character who is always one step ahead of his opponents. Goro is also a skilled fighter and wields a sword in battle.
Goro is a great character because of his complex personality and his importance to the story. He provides a lot of intrigue and mystery and has some of the most intense moments in the game. Additionally, his character arc is one of the most shocking and unexpected in the game.
6. Sumire Yoshizawa
Sumire Yoshizawa is a newcomer to the Phantom Thieves, and she quickly becomes an integral part of the team. Her story arc is fascinating; she struggles with her identity and tries to find her place in the world.
What makes Sumire such an interesting character is her dual identity. She is torn between her desire to be herself and her need to honor her sister’s legacy. This inner conflict leads her to make some questionable decisions, but ultimately, it helps her grow as a person.
Sumire’s character development is one of the best in the game, and her story arc is both emotional and satisfying. She may not be a part of the original Phantom Thieves, but Sumire is undoubtedly one of the best characters in Persona 5 Royal.
7. Morgana
Morgana is one of the first characters players meet in Persona 5 Royal, and he’s a constant presence throughout the game. As the game’s mascot, Morgana is a talking cat who acts as the player’s guide and advisor.
He’s often the comic relief in the game, providing levity to some of the game’s more serious moments. However, Morgana is also a skilled fighter and has a unique set of abilities that make him an invaluable member of the team.
Morgana’s design is cute and memorable, with his large eyes and fluffy fur. His voice actor, Ikue Otani, also does an excellent job bringing the character to life. However, Morgana can be a bit grating at times, and his constant meowing can become tiresome.
Additionally, some players may find his bossy and sometimes selfish behavior annoying. Despite this, Morgana is still a beloved character and an important part of the Persona 5 Royal cast.
8. Yusuke Kitagawa
Yusuke Kitagawa is an eccentric artist who becomes a member of the Phantom Thieves. Yusuke’s story is fascinating, as he struggles to find inspiration for his art and deal with his troubled past.
He’s initially aloof and detached, but as the game progresses, he becomes more engaged with the other characters and learns to open up.
What makes Yusuke such an interesting character is his unique perspective on the world. He sees beauty in everything, even the most mundane objects, and this often leads to some humorous and insightful moments.
Yusuke’s interactions with the other characters are always entertaining, and he’s responsible for some of the game’s funniest moments. Yusuke may be a bit of an oddball, but he’s undoubtedly one of the best characters in Persona 5 Royal.
9. Haru Okumura
Haru Okumura is the daughter of a wealthy businessman and a member of the Phantom Thieves. She’s kind and gentle, but also has a strong sense of justice.
Haru is a skilled fighter, using her unique abilities to support the team in battle. She also has a talent for gardening and is often seen tending to the plants in the Phantom Thieves’ hideout.
However, Haru is one of the least developed characters in the game, and players don’t get to spend as much time with her as they do with some of the other characters.
Additionally, some players may find her meekness a bit off-putting. Despite this, Haru is still a beloved character and an important part of the Persona 5 Royal cast.
