Amnesia: The Bunker Gets Another Delay

Amnesia: The Bunker Gets Another Delay

Last Updated on April 17, 2023

Fans of the Amnesia series may have to wait for a little longer before they could scream in its terrors again. This is because the next installment for the famed survival-horror series, Amnesia: The Bunker is purportedly getting another delay. After initially moving its release date to May 16, 2023, developer Frictional Games revealed recently that the title will now be dropping a few days after it instead. After another delay announcement, Amnesia: The Bunker now has a scheduled release date of May 23, 2023.

Amnesia: The Bunker – The Reason for the Delay

Amnesia The Bunker Gameplay

While the delay was short, only a week after the previous release date, many became curious about the reason why such a move was made. Thankfully, Frictional Games weren’t shy to address them. According to the studio’s press release, they want to take the extra time to ensure the game launches smoothly. They intend to add even more polish to the game and provide players with an excellent experience right off the bat.

Furthermore, Frictional Games noted that the delayed release is also a strategic move. They are carefully timing the release of the next Amnesia game to avoid being lost in the pack. However, considering that May is full of great titles, such as the highly-anticipated Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Bethesda’s Redfall, such a move is understandable. Frictional Games worded this as a thoughtful decision to allow players to fully immerse themselves in the many great gaming experiences without feeling overwhelmed.

Note that the developers did not explicitly state any games. Furthermore, they did not express any fear of competing against such great titles. We honestly think that this is a good move on their part. As famous as the Amnesia series may be, it will ultimately be lost in the shuffle if it directly goes head-to-head with the likes of Zelda. Nevertheless, those looking forward to Amnesia: The Bunker should rejoice that the delay was merely a week.

All You Need to Know About the Game Ahead of Release

Why There are Delays

Frictional Games noted that Amnesia: The Bunker aims to take players back to the dark days of World War I. True to its name, the game tasks the players to explore a creepy, shadowy bunker. You’d play as Henri Clement, a French soldier, stuck underground with only a revolver with one bullet at hand. It is your job to help Henri navigate the bunker’s claustrophobic corridors fighting off all the horrors that lurk within and, of course, darkness itself.

It is also worth noting that Amnesia: The Bunker is unrelated to the previous game, Amnesia: Rebirth. That said, the new game looks to retain a lot of core elements from the previous Amnesia games. The hide-and-seek gameplay and horrifying art style we loved the series for will all be there. This includes clever puzzle-solving sections, intense chase sequences, and interconnected mysteries. Truly, series veterans will instantly feel familiar with this title.

Much like Amnesia: The Dark Descent, the latest game looks to employ a semi-open world setting. These types of games also encourage exploration and Amnesia: The Bunker is no different. Several of the game’s questions can reportedly be answered through exploration alone. That said, you better brace yourself for several jump scares.

The Platforms and Final Release Date

Amnesia: The Bunker will be coming to both current-gen and next-gen consoles and PC via the Epic Games Store and Steam. At the moment of writing, the developers haven’t mentioned anything about console or system exclusives or special game editions. Expect Amnesia: The Bunker to hit store shelves this May 23.
