Unfortunately for us APAC fans, BOOM Esports and Paper Rex both suffered defeats on Day 2 of VALORANT Champions 2022.
BOOM Bows Down To OpTic
BOOM bowed down to North America’s OpTic Gaming after they lost 2-1 in their matchup.
Their debut almost went well as they managed to get Breeze off from OpTic. BOOM had an explosive start as they showed the world what they can do. They managed to hold OpTic to just four round wins while they themselves took eight rounds in the first half. However, an OpTic comeback in the second half pushed the game to multiple overtimes. Fortunately, BOOM’s perseverance rewarded them as they closed out the game by the fifth overtime.
Unfortunately, that would be the last time BOOM was allowed to get close to OpTic. For the next two games, BOOM was unable to contain OpTic’s Jaccob “yay” Whiteaker’s Chamber who decimated them with his aim. Moreover, BOOM seemed dazed and confused during the last moments of their series. They even got wiped out by OpTic’s Austin “crashies” Roberts at one point in Fracture’s zipline. When the series ended, BOOM’s matches at Bind and Fracture ended in disappointing 5-13 and 3-13 losses respectively.
Paper Rex Swept By Leviatán
Meanwhile, Paper Rex suffered a massive upset when they got surprisingly swept 2-0 by Leviatán.
For Game 1 on Haven, Paper Rex started slowly as they got the first taste of Leviatán’s gameplay and suffered a five-round deficit in the first six rounds. Fortunately, they started to mount a comeback and eventually tied the game by halftime. However, things went out of hand as Paper Rex got domineered by Leviatán in the second half as they merely secured just two more rounds before the game’s conclusion.
Unfortunately, the situation never got better for Paper Rex. Despite Bind being their own turf, Paper Rex still managed to lose the second game in a close 11-13 scoreline. The game’s high-octane action saw most of the executes done within the first 30 seconds of a round. This normally would’ve favored Paper Rex but they were ultimately stifled by Leviatán. They also repeatedly fell victim to Leviatán’s brilliant smoke setup at Hookah wherein a sneaky pocket of space was left for Leviatán to hide and later come out which resulted in their demise once they entered B Site.
With the day’s results, BOOM drops down to the elimination match of Group B where they will face Japan’s ZETA DIVISION. Meanwhile, Paper Rex will have to fight the victor between EDward Gaming and Team Liquid for the last playoff spot for Group A.
